The hotel is brand new and beautifully decorated. It is located in a central area with low tourism activity, which is suitable for an extended stay. We stayed a week. We wanted solitude with access to hikes, mountains, highlands, waterfalls and glaciers, and we got it. The breakfast was also delicious. The staff is very kind and accommodating. (We love your hospitality, Judith! And it was a pleasure to briefly meet the owner too!)

Clean and comfortable, breakfast was excellent. We had to leave early that morning but the night guard did a terrific job taking good care of us.

Great property to have fun with family.
Excellent landscaping around the property and love everything about this!
Bathroom was very nice and clean.
Busy little town, with various amenities. Has several museums in the area. A coastal path runs round the west side of the town giving good views of the area. There a number of food outlets along with a Netto supermarket. For refuelling purposes, there a three separate garages for fuel, next to route 1.

The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this).
There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime.
There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large.
In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views.
The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.
Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel.
We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.
This place is spectacular. From the location to the facilities and staff everything was luxury. I made a mistake with my Icelandic, got the word for anniversary wrong and mentioned honeymoon instead - was greeted with a very nice detail from the staff. The two nights here were amazing, the room was spacious with a great view, breakfast was plentiful and could even use the outdoors hot tub which uses hot spring water. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and wish I come back many more times. Thanks for everything!!
Beautiful Hotel / Hostel! The staff is so awesome and friendly and welcoming; I cannot express that enough! Especially as a solo traveler a lot of times you're not sure what to expect next. Breakfast was soooo good; I loved it! It wasn't really what I was expecting, definitely more of a luxury hotel type experience, but hey - it was awesome! AND it's one of THE cheapest hostels in Iceland. (I know bc I checked the entire island lol.)
Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.
Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.
This was our second time booking the same large room upstairs with a balcony. So nice and with everything you needed.
The balcony allows you to try to catch the Northern lights from all sides of the hotel. Every thing was perfect. Not far accross the water is Borgarnes where you can have many choices for restaurant.
A very friendly and helpful host. The property was in a beautiful location and only a short drive to the town, where there are a couple of nice restaurants. Our room was huge with a terrace. Exceptionally clean. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Mila was a delightful and friendly host. The view was ridiculously good and the place was spotless! Very much appreciated the morning coffee and bread to start the day. I would definitely choose this over a hotel on any return trip!
We spent 7 days at 6 different hotels in Iceland. This was one of the best! We absolutely loved it! Best part was seeing the northern lights just outside the hotel. Lovely little town with the nicest people! Would go back!
Very easy and flexible check-in and check-out. The cabin was clean and well equipped. The biggest advantage of this place is an opportunity to walk outside the farm and pet sheep or Icelandic horses.
Modern, clean hotel with helpful staff. Good location in Borgarnes with easy parking. Great buffet breakfast. Spa/hot tub in the basement was very relaxing after our early flight and drive!
This lovely hotel was clean, quiet, beautiful situated. The hostess was so kind and warm. Breakfast was such a yummy spread of good options. The option to pre-reserve dinner was very nice.
Really friendly host in a beautiful location. Borgarnes is a great base to get out and discover this part of Iceland. The accommodation is a real home from home place to stay.
